Join the City Ballet School and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra for a world premiere! The Spell is a new fantasy story ballet based on a Grimm’s fairytale tale of seven princesses bound by a secret spell. The princesses’ spell obligates them to dance from sundown to sunrise for the goddess Tuneotar. Desperate to discover why his daughter’s dancing shoes are worn out each morning, the King offers a prize to the man who can solve the mystery. A peasant boy named Peter falls in love with Elise, the youngest princess, after a serendipitous encounter in the village. With the help of a magic cloak and his quick wit, Peter sets off to solve the mystery and save Elise.

The Spell features an original score by composer Arshak Sirunyan, choreography and stage design by Danielle Horochowski and theatrical animation design by Mitch Stark. The Maryland Symphony Orchestra will perform the score for the first time conducted by Elizabeth Schulze. The Spell will feature a cast of over a hundred local and guest dancers alongside The City Ballet School’s Western Maryland City Ballet Company. Join City Ballet and the MSO for this incredible journey in the first collaboration of this magnitude in Hagerstown history. Stunning costumes, design and theatrical magic are sure to delight an audience of all ages.
